Senior Chief Nazombe of Phalombe district has urged men in his area to support young people in promoting and raising awareness about Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) for betterment of the future.
The traditional leader made the remarks during the Bawo bonanza which Phalombe Youth Arms Organisation (PYAO) organised.
In locations like Phalombe, men often gather to spend their weekends playing Bawo, a local game played on a wooden board with 32 holes and marbles hence recognizing this, PYAO hosted a Bawo Bonanza at Senior Chief Nazombe's ground to engage men in discussions on SRHR.
In her speech, Senior Chief Nazombe urged men to prioritize SRHR for the overall well-being of the population, ensuring young people's good health and productivity. She also praised PYAO for organizing the event, confident that her constituents would make informed decisions on SRHR.
“I ask you men to be in forefront of promoting the sexual and reproductive rights of our girls, we have to ensure that our girls are safe,” she said.
PYAO’s Lucie Bahana is delighted that numerous men acquired knowledge on SRHR and hopes they will apply it in their daily lives to prevent early marriages and teenage pregnancies in the district, particularly in areas under Traditional Authorities Nazombe, Phweremwe, Nkhulambe, and Maoni.
Phalombe District Council Chairperson, Agasson Sompho, commended PYAO's innovative initiative, bringing men together to share experiences and gain new knowledge on SRHR.
The bonanza concluded with Chiringa Club emerging as champions with 17 points, followed by Mwanakhu Club with 11 points, and Chiringa Saranya Club with 10 points. We extend our gratitude to Amplifychange for their support
