A 25-year-old youth, Grevazio Mathoso, has transformed his life after participating in the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) training conducted by the Phalombe Youth Arms Organization under the Propel Health project, supported by USAID.
Grevazio's journey began last year when he enrolled in the GALS programme, which aimed to empower and uplift youths across different locations in Phalombe district.
The programme not only imparted entrepreneurial skills but also instilled a sense of confidence and purpose in the participants who eagerly absorbed the knowledge and inspiration offered by the GALS initiative.
Grevazio's dream came to realisation through the establishment of a stationary shop, strategically situated at Namasoko Market, where he now successfully meets some of his financial needs.
"In the initial days of opening this shop, I wasn't making much money because people were not aware of my business. However, today, I can confidently say that I am able to generate income, which I use for my livelihood. I can now independently address some of the challenges I encounter, as, on average, I make MK5000 (approximately US$3) daily."
He added that he sees his business growing rapidly in the next 24 months with targets and investments which he is planning to do when the crops’ growing season is over.
“I am sure that I am going to employ one or two people once my plan is realised in the next coming months,” he said.
The stationary shop has not only become a source of livelihood for him but has also contributed to the local economy.
The success of Grevazio Mathoso is not just a personal achievement but also a testament to the effectiveness of initiatives like GALS in nurturing talents, fostering entrepreneurship, and ultimately transforming lives.
