14 young people establish businesses after attaining GALS skills
They say the world needs doers, not talkers. Fourteen young people out of the twenty-six who were trained in the Gender Action Learning System (GALS) in August 2025 have established their small-scale businesses, enabling them to earn a living and support their daily needs.
The training was supported by The Hilden Charitable Fund, which gathered together twenty-six young people from more than one hundred youth clubs that PYAO works with.
Violet Ndala, who comes from Traditional Authority Nazombe, says the training was an eye-opener as it challenged her to start a business selling clothes, which has helped her no longer lack necessities.
“Before the training, I had kept some money that I wanted to use just for personal purchases. However, after the training, I decided to implement the business management skills I learned.
“Now I am in the clothes-selling business. I buy and sell clothes that are trending in the market. I am glad that at my young age, I can make enough profits that sustain my livelihood and support my education at Teacher Training College,” she said.
Subsequently, the twenty-six trained young people were tasked with sharing their knowledge with their peers, ultimately reaching two hundred sixteen individuals.
